Sailfish

They can swim at up to 110 km an hour. Their metallic blue colour makes them stand out in the ocean so their speed keeps them away from predators.


Habitat  
Sailfish like warm water and reefs. You can find them in mid waters around the tropics and in the Atlantic Ocean. You can also find them in the Indian Ocean. They only have two predators, a shark and  humans.

FOOD     
They like to eat mackerels, tunas, needle fish and bait fish. They stab their prey to stun them then they eat them. Sometimes they eat Octopus or squid.


Appearance
They are dark grey when the are small and dark blue or black when they are older.
They can grow up to  1.2 to 1.5 meters in a year.

Sailfish can’t not be found in New Zealand  because the water is not warm enough.Image result for big sailfish
